What is GPSD?

On July 22, 2006, the European Commission issued a list of standards for Directive 2001/95/EC (General Product Safety Directive), replacing the previously published list of all official standards, which were developed by the European Organization for Standardization in accordance with the directives of the European Commission. It involves sports equipment, children's wear, pacifiers, lighters, bicycles, furniture (including folding beds) and other products.

According to the General Product Safety Directive, manufacturers are responsible for ensuring that products sold on the market are safe. This applies to all products sold in the market, or to all products supplied to consumers in other ways.

The relevant authorities or courts (if disputed) must determine whether the product is safe based on several factors:

Product features, including ingredients, packaging, and assembly, installation, and care instructions; appearance, including labels, any warnings or instructions regarding use, disposal, and any other instructions or materials (such as manufacturer information);

The category of consumers (children or elders) that the product may pose a risk to.

Producers must take responsibility for ensuring that products supplied and sold in the market are safe and reliable, such as providing information and warnings.
