The CE mark (above) is a symbol attached to a product by the manufacturer (see definition below) for sale in Europe. The marking is mandatory for products falling into one of the 24 European directives.

The CE mark means that the manufacturer is responsible for products that meet all applicable European health, safety, performance and environmental requirements. CE stands for "conform é Europ é enne", French for European consistency.

All 27 member states of the EU, as well as Iceland, Norway and Lichtenstein, need the logo. Switzerland accepts CE marks for some products, while Turkey actually requires many products to have CE marks.
